Full description

Hankin, C. F., 1977, Enclosed hut circle settlement north of Drylake (Worksheet). SDV165677.

Hut circle (1) in the north-west corner of the enclosure constructed from small stones to a height of 0.6 meters. There are no features of particular interest.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1977, SX66SW12 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV165675.

Hut circle measuring 7.0 meters in diameter in fair condition.

Butler, J., 1993, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Four - The South-East, 53-54, Map 54, Figure 54.14 (Monograph). SDV337765.

This hut circle (2) measures 6.5 meters in diameter and has been built across the perimeter of the enclosure and has a south-facing entrance into the enclosure. The uphill wall of this circle has been partly demolished and replaced by a construction across the centre of the hut, which is likely to represent a tinner’s temporary dwelling, due to the close proximity of the pit and ditch alongside this enclosure.

Hit circle shown on modern mapping.

One of two hut circles built into the northern arc of an enclosure (MDV4294) on the moderate eastern slope of the River Erme to the north of Dry Lake. The hut, which is incomplete, having been subject to later alterations, comprises a circular, turf-covered stony bank. The interior diameter could have been up to 7.3 metres. A small, probably rectangular structure of 2.7 metres by 2 metres was later imposed on the hut within its south-west arc, when the bank may have been heightened to over 1 metre.
