A workhouse has not yet been erected for this union but there is a small poorhouse in the town.

The Union Workhouse was built in 1857, at which time it was described as 'hadsome and commodious'. It subsequently became Dawfield (later Holsworthy) Hospital, named after the owner/occupier of the field in which it was built. The site is now occupied by modern housing.
