Summary

Narrow ridge and furrow is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as subtle earthworks and cropmarks on the north-west facing slopes of Shaugh Moor. The site has been largely destroyed by the expansion of clay extraction in the second half of the 20th century.

Closely spaced banks or ridges are visible as earthworks.

Closely spaced banks or ridges approximately 4m wide are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as subtle north to south aligned parallel earthworks, crossing 2ha of on the north-west facing slopes of Shaugh Moor.
The earthwork is probably evidence of 19th century agricultural improvement.
The earthworks have been largely destroyed by the expansion of clay extraction in this area in the second half of the 20th century.
