Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Honiton, 5 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV337401.

Bramble Hill House, Exeter Road. Late 18th century with alterations and additions. 2 storey and attics, 2 casement dormers with glazing bars. Slate roof, hipped. 2 storey bows, with 3 sash windows each, with glazing bars. Central 6-panel door with fielded upper panels, radial-bar fan and bracket open pediment. Interior: door with 6 fielded panels, stairs with square balusters column newels swept rail and shaped brackets on cut string, one plain wood mantel remains at 1st floor.

The western end of the conservation area is characterised by groups of mainly early and mid 19th century villas in landscaped gardens, with some chert stone boundary walls. The houses range from expressive Gothic cottage to fomal two-bay classical types. Maps.
