1840 tithe map gives field name "great lang park". Plot 143 (ntas).

The name Great Lang Park, 143 on the Tithe Map, may be indicative of a former deer park or parkland at Compton. Some indications of formal parkland planting are shown on the 1887 (Ordnance Survey) map, specifically along the top of the hill and steep slope to the south-east where there is a small line of beech trees still standing, and along Castle Lane.
