Full description

Wardle, C. J., Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV117727.

Vis=2/9/1991 (wardle) large hole, 5m diam, surmounted by ring of bracken on a bank with external ditch. Bank 0.6m high. Depression 1.4m deep. Appears to be an elongated entrance to w (wardle).

SMR records site of barrow in 1991, described as large hole (presumably thought to be an excavated barrow) 5 metres diameter by 1.4 metres deep, surrounded by bracken covered bank 0.6 metre high with external ditch. Possible elongated entrance to west. The feature described was not located during the field survey. Much of Gittisham Hill is covered in extraction pits/hollows and adjacent spoil heaps (see site 297). The nearest feature to grid reference given was located at grid reference SY 14663 96927 and consisted of roughly triangular hole circa 10 metres by 8 metres by 1 metre deep, surrounded by spoil.
