Full description
Blaylock, S. R., 1989, Dunkeswell Abbey, Devon. A Survey of the Standing Remains (Report - Survey). SDV136090.
A building to the north of the gatehouse. A series of structural remains in the north wall of the gatehouse gives evidence for a narrow structure attached to the north west corner of the building. The clearest element is a first floor doorway. External elevation shows blocked doorway at ground level, and scars of two walls apparently bonded to fabric of north wall of gatehouse. An early 20th century photo shows substantially more than now survives. This building may represent part of the primary structure. Function unclear. Maximum internal width c1.50m. Possibly a two storey passage leading to a building further north, or shallow building accommodating garderobes.
