Full description

Department of Environment, 1983, Okehampton, 4 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV342832.

Coaching inn, 17th /18th century. Stuccoed stone with steeply pitched gable-ended roof with new tiles. Overhanging eaves with end brackets over giant corner pilasters. Three storeys and attics. Five bays. Restored sash windows with glazing bars, ground floor in segmental-headed openings. Central doorway with double doors and portico with four granite Tuscan columns supporting a balcony with an iron balustrade. One of the openings on to the balcony has French doors. On the balcony a plinth with a white deer. Three modern flat roof dormers. Rendered chimney stacks at gable-ends. Circa late 18th century assembly room addition to left hand, two storeys, one bay, with hipped roof and rusticated quoins, string course and round-headed sash window with glazing bars on first floor. Interior: circa late 17th century open well staircase through all floors with turned baluster, square newels, moulded hand rail and string with pulvinated frieze.
