Full description

Weddell, P. J., 1991, An Archaeological Assessment of Kerswell Priory, Broadhembury, 7, Fig. 4 (Report - Assessment). SDV340329.

The hedgebank to the south-west of the proposed tennis court which abuts north-west angle of the walled garden is earmarked for removal. It is shown on the Tithe Map and was originally continuous with the northern boundary of garden (B on Fig. 4). The bank curves around to the south-west towards the farmhouse; at this point it is very wide. The Tithe Map suggests it formed an enclosure around the farmhouse and as the west side is continuous with the west end of the building (ie the church) it may have formed part of the medieval plan.
