Full description

Department of Environment, 1989, Hartland, 66 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV114.

Highford farm. Gate piers. Dated 1896 built by James Berriman. Square chamfered piers with plinth and moulded cornice with flat capping, surmounted by a lion and sheep couchant. On front of each piers a plaque reading "On how peaceful art thou 'O' Highford J. B.1896". Flanking banded rubble walls with brick dressings. Contemporary iron gate with simple cresting. This gateway forms part of an ambitious planned farm of the 1880's - 1890's belonging to James Berriman and notable for its decorative designs as well as carefully planned layout.
