Sub-oval and irregularly shaped earthwork pits, between 8m and 70m long, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthworks do not correspond with any pit features shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map. They are located within land parcels 377, 419 and 419.1 on this map which are recorded as ‘Waste and Quarry’, ‘Quarry Park’ and ‘The Quarry’, respectively, on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. Earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarries’ are also shown here on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries which had passed out of use by the mid to late-19th century. An earthwork is depicted in this location on the 2020 Ordnance Survey MasterMap. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
