Dartmouth Cottage Hospital. In 1892, freehold land became available on newly built South Embankment for purpose built hospital. Existing institution at Bayards Cove closed on mid-summer day 1894. Six weeks later, new building officially opened. Consisted of 2 main wards, each with 6 beds, an operating theatre and 3 bedrooms for matron, nurses and servants. In 1926 an extension was built and during World War II the adjoining Mansion House property was taken over as an annexe. Now used for post-operative care, geriatric care, assessment and rehabilitation.
