Jenkinson, T., 2006 - 2008, Dartmouth to Modbury. A3122/B3207 (Report - Survey). SDV347825.

Site visit 19th July 2008. Milestone in Victoria Road on west side of road opposite Thurlestone Court. Dated circa 1824. Inscribed 'King/Bridg/13/Modby/15/Totnes/12/To/Darth/1'. The stone is leaning to the side and is chipped across the front edge. At risk from both vegetation overgrowth and impact. One of a series of fascinating markers set up by the Kingsbridge and Dartmouth Turst as far as Moreleigh, after which the Modbury Turnpike Trust took over. This first milestone confirms that this was once the main route out of town built some time after a Parliamentary Act of 1824. The road was originally known as New Road, the name change probably occurred in 1887 or 1897 to commemorate jubliee years of Queen Victoria's reign.
