Summary

Round cairn measures 5.3 metres in diameter and stands up to 0.3 metres high. Traces of a kerb are visible around the outer edge of the mound. Excavations carried out by the Dartmoor Barrow Committee revealed a pit cut into the subsoil, but no artefacts.

Baring Gould, S., 1898, Fifth Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 112 (Article in Serial). SDV337066.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950/1978, SX57NE14 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV273369.

(10/07/1950) Cairn (remains of). In position as shown on field sheet. Dimeter 4.8 metres, height 0.4 metres. Turf covered, mutilated, no trace of retaining circle.
Cairn - not a barrow (08/05/1955).
(14/09/1978) On the south-east slope of Langstone Moor, at approximately 447.0m OD, is a grass-covered cairn 5.5m in diameter and 0.4m high. It has been mutilated by the remains of a kerb/or peristalith are still visible.
Revised at 1:10 000 on PFD. See ground photograph.

(22/6/1974) Cairn; remains of retaining circle, noted 1898, not now visible. Excavated in 1898 revealed central pit with no traces of interment. Diameter 4.5 metres, height 0.2 metres.

Langstone Moor 1 cairn at SX55747811 of 5.5 metres diameter by 0.3 metres high. Several loose blocks lie on the uneven surface of the northern cairn and two slabs of a retaing circle remain around the edge. A central pit had been dug into but with no trace of an internment or charcoal.

This monument includes two round cairns aligned north-east to south-west and situated prominently on a hill crest overlooking the valley of the river Walkham.
The northern cairn mound measures 5.3 metres in diameter and stands up to 0.3 metres high. Traces of a kerb are visible around the outer edge of the mound. Excavations carried out by the Dartmoor Barrow Committee revealed a pit cut into the subsoil, but no artefacts.
