Rocket pole, life saving apparatus posts. Sturdy wooden pole c 20ft high with pulley at top and single remaining climbing step. To W are two low poles, presumably for guy ropes. Erected in 1893 by the Board of Trade for the Coastguard Service for training exercises. Rocket fired from c 20 yds away and rope for breeches buoy attached to pole top. Account of exercises given by Gade (1978). Other details: 101,127.
