Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950/1979, SX57NE26, Enclosure D (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV235322.

(21/08/1950) SX 5554 7520. The enclosure of a group of five hut circles and enclosure. Enclosure D. Wall composed of large boulders height 0.7-0.5m, some of which are turf covered. Hut circles A, B and C are built against the wall. Condition fairly good.
(05/11/1979) Five partly robbed hut circles and the remains of what may have been an enclosure are centred at SX 55557519. Three huts of Type 2 (56 NE 71) have double walling 1.3m. wide and 0.5m. high, with exceptional slabs up to 0.8m. high; internal diameters range from 5.5m. to 8.9m. Two of the huts have entrances, on the south-west and south; in the third entrance is uncertain.
From the largest hut an enclosure wall extends north-west and east for a total of 60.0m., now rubble 0.4m. high linking in situ boulders; stone robbing may have caused the abrupt termination at the eastern end. Here, at SX 55567521, are two probably Type 1 huts (SX 56 SE 19) apparently single walled, with internal diameters of 3.9m. and 4.9m. both linked by a low wall of single stones. The northern of the huts has a southern entrance, the other has no certain entrance gap.
There is no definable field system that can be associated with the settlement.
Surveyed at 1:10 000 on MSD and at 1:2500.
