Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950 - 1955, SX57SE19 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV219145.

Hut circle LL(?), is a large circle composed of massive granite boulders stones set on edge on the northern and eastern sides. The rest of the circle has a double wall of large stones measuring 2.0 meters in width, with walls remaining to a height of 0.6 meters. The diameter of the circle is 8.0 meters. The circle has been robbed extensively on the south-western side and there is no obvious entrance. Condition of the remains is fairly good.

The hut circle is attached to the east wall of the enclosure, at SX55487503, and is terraced into the hill slope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. The interior measures 6.4 meters in diameter and is defined by a 2.4 meter wide wall standing up to 0.9 meters high. A west-facing gap in the surrounding wall may represent the original doorway.

Hut circle number 16 (SX55487503) is located within an enclosure. Measures 6.9 meters in diameter internally and walls survive to a height of 0.8 meters and width of 1.3 meters. This circle adjoins enclosure.
