At least three irregularly shaped pits circa 15 to 30m across are visible on aerial photographs on 1946 onwards as earthworks within an area of rough ground and scrub vegetation on the south-west facing slopes north of Spriddlescombe Manor Farm.
The visible earthworks correspond with an area depicted as rough ground and two pits, depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map and labelled as Old Quarry.
The earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury, but plot 289 is listed in the apportionments as Higher Quarry Park.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of a quarry that probably ceased to be worked prior to the 1840s.
The earthworks remain identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.
