Summary

Roman coins. Manuscript reference only. Rev. Langdon's notebook in the parish chest refers to roman coins found 'in an earthen jar underneath a heap of stone' in 1814, from the reign of phillipus, aurelian, tacitus, probus, diocletian, tetricius and cornelia salmina. He does not identify the site, but local people say it was at hill common, near leahill farm. He does not refer to membury roman villa in his notebook, but locals say it was he who found the pieces of roman brick in culver croft, and took them to the school house (crf:st20se/22) (walker).

Roman coins. Manuscript reference only. Rev. Davidson in ms of "collections for membury" records children finding a small urn full of roman coins on hill common in c.1814. Also noted by pulman (wilkin) (see parish file).

Two roman coins: probus (as 276-282), m and s.643,650 and victorinum (sd268270), m and s 67. Both acquired by ramm exeter in 1909.(fox).
