Clay pits of possible post-medieval to late 19th century date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the southwest of Drake Farm, Yarcombe. The irregular and semi-circular shaped earthworks measure between 25m to 30m in length and are situated either side of an historic field boundary. The western of the two earthworks corresponds to an ‘Old Clay Pit’ depicted on the Ordnance Survey First edition map of the 1880’-90’s, but it is probable the eastern of the two earthworks was similarly utilised for such. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pits had passed out of use prior to the late 19th century. The Parish Tithe map mosaic of approximately 1838-48 is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether the clay pits were extant by this time.
