An enclosure of uncertain, but potential medieval to post-medieval, date is visible as a series of earthwork banks and ditches on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northeast of Burrow Hill Farm. The enclosure is rectilinear in shape, measures approximately 80m in length by 67m in width and is situated on moderate east facing slope. The earthworks are most clearly defined on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. They comprise an inner rectilinear banked enclosure, approximately 10m in width, which is largely encompassed by an outer earthwork ditch, approximately 6m in width. Sections of bank are additionally visible flanking the outer, southern edge of this ditch. A possible entrance, approximately 6m in width, is visible through all sections of these earthworks along the southern edge of the enclosure. The extent of the enclosure is partly defined as field boundaries on the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48, suggesting the enclosure had been constructed prior to this time. Field name evidence within adjacent fields give reference to site of a castle here, which may imply medieval, or earlier, origins to this enclosure. A concentration of earthwork pits and mounds of possible open cast ironstone mining pits are clearly visible to the immediate east of the enclosure, although since it is unclear whether these represent associated features or not, they have been recorded as a separate monument. Further investigation of this enclosure, in particular geophysical survey is recommended to help establish more fully the nature of this site.
