Cropmarks with have formed over levelled banks which have been tentatively interpreted as forming an enclosure of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs of 1948, within a plantation to the west of Woodhayne Farm, Yarcombe. The possible cropmarks are linear in shape and broadly north to south and east to west aligned and define a possible rectilinear shaped enclosure approximately 100m in length by at least 55m in width. The cropmarks should be viewed with caution and it is possible they are they are part of a series of 19th to 20th trackways associated with the plantation. Tracks are for instance depicted here, albeit on a different alignment, on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The possible enclosure is not visible on aerial photographs after 1948 or digital images owing to tree cover of the plantation.
