Name:Hut 21 in settlement north of White Tor

Summary

Hut attached to western side of smaller enclosure, adjoining the main enclosure to the north-east. Measures 2.2 by 2.2 metres diameter. Rubble filled hollow at corner of enclosure. Butler shows it as a larger hut with curved subdivision; Gerrard records two huts at this location (see MDV47586).

Full description

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., (Feb 1992) (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

Hut circle at SX54367887. Internal diameter 2.4 metres. Rubble bank wall 2.0 metres wide, 0.6 metres high. Attached to western boundary wall of enclosure (MDV47584).


Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Two - The North, 92-3, Fig 31.8 (Monograph). SDV219155.

Butler depicts this hut (Hut 1); the largest of the settlement (5.7 metres in diameter). It is positioned on the edge of its own small plot in the north-east corner and has a curved interior wall the same height as the outer one.
