An irregularly shaped pit circa 85 by 50m in size is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The pit corresponds with, but is notably larger than, a quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25in First Edition map. The pit is therefore probably of post-medieval to 19th century date.
The quarry is depicted on all subsequent maps, increasing in area with each iteration of mapping, indicating continued use throughout the 20th century, reaching an area comparable to the visible earthwork by the 1960s-1970s.
