An extensive area of irregularly-shaped earthwork pits, within an area of irregular ground surface circa 110 by 75 metres in maximum visible extent, is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. No features are depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping and they are interpreted as the remains of extractive pits that were abandoned by the mid-19th century.
