Proposal of a link between Broadhempston Primary School and the Monks Retreat Inn (Grade II). The school is not listed. Originally the school was a workhouse and at some time was closely connected with the Monks Retreat Inn. The two buildings remain very close to each other and in places still touch.

Bell, J. S., 2006, Archaeological Monitoring and Recording at Broadhempston Primary School (Report - Watching Brief). SDV338527.

During groundworks for an extension to the south of the school in 2006 several sections of wall were exposed. A short section of masonry was excavated at the southern corner of the school & was on the same alignment as the eastern elevation. The wall was constructed from rough-hewn local stone bonded with lime mortar. The wall was interpreted as the remains of the wall that divided the boys & girls playgrounds in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. A corner of walling of a former building was exposed to the northeast.
