A marl pit and the site of a later orchard are visible as earthwork pit and banked features on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Bidwell Farm. The 'Old Marl Pit' is labelled and depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. At some point following its abandonment, it appears to have been re-used as an orchard. Aerial photographs of 1947 show a series of northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, upon which the fruit trees were established, within the former pit. All traces of fruit trees appear to have been cleared by this time however. The marl pit and orchard banks remain clearly visible on aerial photographs of 1996.
