A clay pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northwest of Courtmoor Farm. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 114m in length by 61m in width and is partly depicted here and labelled as ‘Old Clay Pit’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. A number of clay pits are depicted in the vicinity here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map. It is also located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded during this survey and following a walkover survey carried out in 2016 (MDV114110) associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. The earthwork pit remains visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
