Earthworks of irregularly shaped pits and banks are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2019. The visible earthworks occupy an area of circa 1 hectare of steep east facing slope. They comprise two pits, 38 metres and 50 metres long, with associated banks, between 11-40 metres long.
The earthworks correspond with features labelled as ‘Clamoak Quarry (Disused)’ on the early-20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map.
They are therefore interpreted as the quarries and spoil heaps of Clamoak Quarry that had passed out of use by the early-20th century.
An earthwork cutting and a structure have also been recorded in this area from aerial photographs of 1984 as part of the Tamar Valley NMP project. These largely complement, but have also been enhanced by, transcriptions derived from this survey.
