RAF Winkleigh Dispersal Site. There is a group of Nissen type huts with a central temporary brick type building and earthen air raid shelters, probably representing an accommodation site at SS632088 (not on Ordnance Survey 6 inch map). One of the buildings, a temporary brick ablutions block, is still standing at SS63250893 but is very dilapidated. The water tower is in use as a silo of some sort.

The airfield at Winkleigh was completed in January 1943, and was first occupied by the RAF's Fighter Command. It was then used by the United States Army Air Force, whose role was to support the D-Day invasion landing trials. It later became home to the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Norwegian Air Force. It ceased operational duties in 1945, and was sold by the Air Ministry in 1958.
