HER Number:MDV48880
Name:Hut circle north-west of Wotter, Shaugh Prior

Summary

One of two very fine hut stances levelled into a fairly steep south-facing hillslope are part of the extensive prehistoric field system which covers the area. Much of the detail of the early field system has apparently been effaced by the medieval and later field pattern so these features are rare survivals. This stance measures overall 8.6m (north-south) by 9.7m and the interior is 5.4m (north-south) by 6.6m with a 1.0m high back scarp and 0.2m high front scarp. Only one boulder, on the downhill side, is visible. The remains of a ? robbed, boulder wall now 6.3m long and 0.4m high links into the upslope side of this feature.
