Earthworks of five irregularly shaped pits, between 20m to 38m long, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. One of the pits at SX52726304 corresponds with an earthwork feature depicted on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, which is also shown and labelled as ‘Old Quarries ‘on the early 20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries which had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover. Earthworks are shown here on the Ordnance Survey 2019 MasterMap.
