The original White Thorn Inn is now White Thorn Cottage, situated a few yards away on the opposite side of the car park. This building is over 200 years ago and is rumoured that, like the Warren House Inn, there was a peat fire burning there that hadn't been allowed to go out for almost 160 years. William Crossing refers to it in his Guide To Dartmoor; when he saw it in 1873 it had been burning for at least 40 years.

Ordnance Survey, 2013, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV350786.

Building is depicted on the modern mapping, just to the south-east of the current White Thorn Inn.
