Name:Hut circle B in settlement north of Hart Tor

Summary

This stone hut circle is situated on the northern edge of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement, on a south-west facing slope. The building is terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and coursed walling type. The interior of the structure measures 5.2m in diameter and is defined by a 1.4m wide wall standing up to 0.7m high. This structure lies at the junction of three boundary walls forming part of an irregular aggregate field system. The doorway into the hut, faces south.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX57SE20, Hut B (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV276586.

24/8/1950 (SX 5813 7250) Hut B (8.5m diameter). Apparently of single wall type, (maximum 1.5m in width, 0.7m high) much overgrown. Entrance appears to be to the south. Condition good.
There is no sign of another hut circle (given the letter C by the Ordnance Survey) which was thought to be nearby.

Thirty-six stone hut circles and an irregular aggregate field system forming part of an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement 450m north of Hart Tor.
This stone hut circle is situated on the northern edge of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement, on a south-west facing slope. The building is terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and coursed walling type. The interior of the structure measures 5.2m in diameter and is defined by a 1.4m wide wall standing up to 0.7m high. This structure lies at the junction of three boundary walls forming part of an irregular aggregate field system. The doorway into the hut, faces south.
This settlement was partially excavated in 1895 by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, but it is not known which huts were investigated.
This stone hut circle survives comparatively well and forms part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement situated within an area containing a large number of settlements. The hut lies at the junction of three field boundaries and may therefore contain information concerning the development of this settlement.
