Name:Hut circle G in settlement north of Hart Tor

Summary

Hut terraced into the hillslope; of the simple plan and rubble bank walling type. The interior of the structure measures 4.5m in diameter and is defined by a 2m wide wall standing up to 0.6m high. A 19th century granite distance marker associated with a rifle range lies immediately outside the south-west wall of the hut. Despite limited damage as a result of this area being used as a rifle range this stone hut circle survives comparatively well and forms part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement situated within an area containing a large number of settlements.

24/8/1950 (SX 5814 7248) Hut G (6.5m diamater, walls on north 0.4m high, maximum). The entrance is not apparent and the circle appears to have been much robbed. Very overgrown, condition fair.

Thirty-six stone hut circles and an irregular aggregate field system forming part of an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement 450m north of Hart Tor.
The building is terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and rubble bank walling type. The interior of the structure measures 4.5m in diameter and is defined by a 2m wide wall standing up to 0.6m high. A 19th century granite distance marker associated with a rifle range lies immediately outside the south-west wall of the hut.
This settlement was partially excavated in 1895 by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, but it is not known which huts were investigated.
Despite limited damage as a result of this area being used as a rifle range this stone hut circle survives comparatively well and forms part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement situated within an area containing a large number of settlements.
