Name:Hut circle M in settlement north of Hart Tor, Wakhampton

Summary

Hut is terraced into the hillslope which was excavated in 1895. The interior of the structure measures 5.0 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.9 metres wide wall standing up to 1.0 metres high. A line of stones visible within the interior of the hut, may represent a contemporary partition. The doorway faces south-south-west. A boundary bank leads north-east from this hut towards hut MDV4935. One of the visually more impressive huts within the settlement.

One of the eighteen hut circles excavated in 1895. Hartor Tor. Piece of slate of roughly circular form found in one of the hut circles, similar to one found at Grimspound. It was serving as a cover to a shallow vessel.

24/8/1950 (SX 5820 7240). Hut M (8.5m diameter, walls 1.0m wide, 0.3m maximum height). A double walled type with an entrance clearly defined by tall standing stones to the south. Condition very good.

Thirty-six stone hut circles and an irregular aggregate field system forming part of an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement 450 metres north of Hart Tor.
Stone hut circle within a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement. Terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. The interior of the structure measures 5.0 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.9 metres wide wall standing up to 1.0 metres high. A line of stones visible within the interior of the hut, may represent a contemporary partition. The doorway faces south-south-west. A boundary bank leads north-east from this hut towards hut MPP 130732.
This settlement was partially excavated in 1895 by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee; a piece of slate of roughly circular form found in one of the hut circles, similar to one found at Grimspound. It was serving as a cover to a shallow vessel. One of the visually more impressive huts within the settlement.

This monument includes 36 stone hut circles dispersed within an irregular aggregate field system situated on a gentle west-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Meavy and forming part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement between Hart Tor and Devil's Bridge.
