Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
'M.S. Plymouth 11, Moretonhampstead 17' depicted on the late 19th century historic map.
Jenkinson, T., 2006, Milestone Survey from Barnstaple to Crediton (Report - Survey). SDV348165.
Milestone dating to approximately 1812 beside the turn to Peek Hill Farm was found to be a tall 0.7 metre stone in good condition and inscribed 'Plymouth 11 miles, Princetown 4'. The stretch of road from Yelverton to Princetown and from Princetown to Moretonhampstead known as the 'Trans Dartmoor Route' was built and maintained jointly by the Tavistock and Moretonhampstead Trusts in 1772. The boundary of the Trust seems to be close to the 'Warren House Inn'.
