A group of cottages called The Croft was demolished at some point between 1749 and 1760 to make way for Castle Grove. The area of Castle Grove also included a group of cottages called Orchard Hams.

The area of Castle Grove included a group of cottages called Orchard Hams probably relating to the existing tarrace of cottages fronting Castle Street. A group of cottages known as The Croft was demolished to make way for the house at Castle Grove.
