World War II activity is visible on an air photo on South Common, south of South Common Lane consisting of a rectangular grid, each rectangle containing a small blob possibly a chimney stack. These rectangles are in two groups in two separate fields, one centred at ST30860185 orientated north-south, the second centred at ST31050192 orientated north-west - south-east

Exeter Museums Archaeological Field Unit, 1992 - 1993, Blackdown Hills Survey Archive (Archive - Survey). SDV324187.

Site visit 20th August 1993. The present owners of the western complex were unaware of any WWII activity and haven't found any evidence for it. Both areas are now permanent pasture and no above ground features are visible.

Axminster Local History Society, 1997, Military buildings on South Common (Worksheet). SDV366184.

The military buildings shown on the 1947 aerial photograph have been demolished. There are now no remains in the field. The photo shows two grids of rectangular compounds, each containing a structure.
