Summary

Site of a toll house which was built in the 1830s. It is recorded as Beggar's Bush Gate, owned by the Exeter Turnpike Trust on the Chudleigh Tithe Map and Apportionment. It was sold to Lord Clifford in 1884. It is shown on the 1890 Ordnance Survey map but had gone by the time of the 1905 map.

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

A rectangular roadside building (Plot 1157) is shown on the Chudleigh Tithe Map. The plot is recorded on the accompanying apportionment as Beggar's Bush Gate, owned by the Trustees of Exeter Turnpike.

A toll house at Beggar's Bush was proposed in 1835 and built in 1838. It was left in situ when the Exeter Turnpike Trust expired in 1884 and sold to Lord Clifford in 1884. It is shown on the 1890 Ordnance Survey map but not on the 1905.
