Hut circle P is of double walled type, measuring 6.5 meters in diameter, with a 1.25 meter wide wall, remaining up to a height of 0.5 meters. Many of the boulders built into the wall are quite large and project from the turf covered bank forming the wall. The floor is somewhat hollowed out. Condition is good, with an entrance on the south-western side.

Hut circle within a large partially enclosed settlement. Terraced into the hill slope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 6.2 meters in diameter and is defined by a 2.2 meter wide wall standing up to 0.9 meters high. A south-south-west facing gap in the surrounding wall may represent the position of an original doorway. This hut forms part of a string of six huts whose linear distribution suggests that they may have once been linked together by a palisade or similar structure which now survives as a buried feature. A 3.0 meter by 2.5 meter by 0.1 meter deep hollow within the interior of the building probably represents the site of an excavation trench dug by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1895. Six huts within the settlement were excavated and all of them contained charcoal, although only two hearths were located. One or two were paved but the only artefact recovered was a flint flake.

Probert, S. A. J., 2000, The Merrivale Guardianship Area, Walkhampton, Devon (Report - Survey). SDV344969.

Hut circle number 27 (SX55547490). Measures 6.0 meters in diameter internally and walls survive to a height of 0.6 meters and width of 1.7 meters. Other details: 12 (fig 4).
