Summary

Site of Muddlebridge Quay which served the local potteries. It may have been established by the 17th century but other quays may have existed, particularly on the east side of Fremington Pill. The existing riverside wall is certainly late 19th century in date.

Full description

Weddell, P. J., 1993, Archaeological Assessment of NRA Muddlebridge (Fremington) Tidal Defence Scheme, 3 (Report - Assessment). SDV342214.

Site of Muddlebridge Quay which served the Muddlebridge potteries. It may have been established by the 17th century although other quays may have existed, particularly on the east side of Fremington Pill. The existing riverside wall is almost certainly late 19th century and is of uniform stone rubble construction with lime mortar bonding. It has been repointed with concrete/cement and no structural features are visible.
