Summary

Sundial erected circa 1690 on Bideford Long Bridge. The sundial is in Renaissance style, located in the centre of the bridge on the northern side. There is a sketch of it in the Gentleman's Magazine of July, 1751. The four dials were made in 1726. The town arms or seal were painted on the western side of the sundial, the seal of the bridge on the eastern side and the Arms of England on the southern side.

Whiting, F. E., 1948, Bideford Bridge, 128 (Article in Serial). SDV18901.

Sundial erected circa1690 on Bideford Long Bridge. The sundial is in Renaissance style in the centre of the bridge on northern side. There is a sketch of it in a Gentleman's Magazine of July, 1751. The four dials were made in 1726. The town arms or seal were painted on the western side, the seal of the bridge on the eastern side and the arms of England on the southern side of the sundial.
