Halfpenny Bridge has supports for an aqueduct which seems to have fed a water meadow in the 18th century.

Aqueduct was of wood. Watermeadow mentioned by Polwhele in 1790. In use until soon after Second World War.

The bridge is believed to have been built circa 1830 when the turnpike road from Exeter Inn to Black Cat was laid. Stone supports for the wooden channel that carried the leat across the river form part of the bridge structure. Other details: Photo.
