Area of iron pits visible on both sides of lane on raf ap. Probably those mentioned by hutchinson (st10nw-025 + 026). Os 6" (1968) depicts poultry houses on site of pits on n side of lane. An irregular earthwork bank appears to delimit area of pits (aph). Vis=20/2/1995 (ea) this is an area of pasture which has shallow depressions 9.5-12.3m diam. And 0.3m deep, suggestive of large, infilled iron pits. These features are in fields at st13500610, st13400610, st13500630 and the southern part of st13400650. Adjacent fields st13120625, st13320670, st13300685 and st13500683 were under crops and no evidence of pits could be seen. These fields are to the north and south of a track (st13400641) called ironpit way on the enclosure award, 1818. Mr. Dymond occasionally finds ore fragments when ploughing the pitted area (ea).
