Summary

Hut Circle '46a' is a hearth pit of 1.5 metres diameter by 0.3 metres deep attached to the east side of Hut Circle '46' at Watern Oke settlement. Excavations in 1905 revealed that it was a fireplace, for it was burnt in several places

Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 110-113 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a group of about 94 hut circles at Watern Oke. Hut 46a; evidently a cooking place constructed amongst the rocks. Impossible to measure it for it had no shape. Contained much burnt granite.

(1992) SX 5652 8344 Hearth pit situated immediately next to hut circle (subsheet 42). Measures 1.5m in diameter and 0.3m deep and includes a small orthostat lined stone filled pit. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 revealed that it was a fire-place, for it was burnt in several places.
