Name:Hut circle 55, Watern Oke settlement

Summary

Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan, single orthostat and coursed walling type. Interior measures 4.5m in diameter and is defined by a 1.5m wide wall standing up to 1m high. Doorway, now blocked, faces south. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 revealed a fire-place against the west wall, large quantities of cooking stones, pottery sherds and flints.

Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 110 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One a group of about 94 at Watern Oke. Hut 55; diameter 4.17m. Well built of large stones, entrance at south, fireplace on west side. Large quantity of cooking stones found; also pottery and some pieces of flint.
