Summary

Hut circle '64' of 4.8 metres diameter with walls 2 metres wide by up to 1.2 metres high at Watern Oke settlement. A small rubble cairn of 1 metre diameter by 0.2 metres high lies against the interior edge of the south wall, and probably represents a spoil dump from the 1905 excavations which recovered cooking and rubber stones, a sherd of pottery and pieces of flint

Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 101-113 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a settlement at Watern Oak. Hut 64; diameter 5.18 metres. A good circle, no entrance. Cooking and rubbing stones; neck, lip (or handle) of a jar, and pieces of flint were found.

Visited in 1992. Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan, single orthostat and coursed walling type. Interior measures 4.8 metres in diameter and is defined by a 2 metres wide wall standing up to 1.2 metres high. A small rubble cairn, measuring 1 metre in diameter and standing up to 0.2 metres high, lies up against the interior edge of the south wall, and probably represents a spoil dump from the excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905. This work recovered cooking and rubber stones, a sherd of pottery and pieces of flint.

Hut circle '2' of 5.2 metres diameter is the largest hut in the 'Central group' to the east of the main Watern Oke settlement. It is slightly uphill from the rest of the group.

This monument includes ten stone hut circles situated on a gentle south facing slope overlooking the River Tavy and forming part of the large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement at Watern Oke.
