Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 112, Hut 73 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a group of hut circles at Watern Oke. Hut 73; longer diameter, 12 feet (3.66m) by 7 feet (2.13m). A large nearly square stone nearly filled the hut. Cooking stones found. No entrance identified.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX58SE9, SX58SE9 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV232751.

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 123910 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

(16/10/1992) Hut circle terraced into hillslope. Simple plan and single orthostat walling type. The interior of the structure measures 2.7 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.1 metres wide wall standing up to 0.8 metres high. A gap in the east-south-east wall may be a doorway, although the Dartmoor Exploration Committee who excavated this hut in 1905 could not find an entrance. A single slab lying immediately north of the possible entrance may represent a porch although it is possible that this stone was displaced during the excavation. Artefacts found during the excavation included cooking stones.
