Scatter of Prehistoric flint & chert pieces found during replacement of water main inside hedge of Tithe Map field No 2021. Two areas of burnt soil were observed on the spoil heap.

Exeter Museums Archaeological Field Unit, 1993, Blackdown Hills Survey (Report - Survey). SDV97763.

A narrow strip along the eastern end of this field (Tithe Map 2021 : Lane Seven Acres) was examined by N Pearce during the insertion of a water pipeline. A large number of worked prehistoric flints including a significant mesolithic element was discovered. A total of 308 pieces was collected initially of which 91 are flint and 217 chert. This group includes flint: 64 spalls, 2 microliths, 4 scrapers; chert: 35 spalls, 6 scrapers, 1 core/hammer stone, 6 possible burins and 1 notched. A subsequent brief examination of the rest of the field produced a further 155 pieces (106 flint, 49 chert) which include 1 backed blade, 1 complete bulb, 3 scrapers and 1 knife, and two Mesolithic picks discovered in a stone pile in the field. Includes flint: 67 spalls, 9 scrapers, 11 blades, 5 notched blades; chert: 31 spalls, 6 burins, 1 hammerstone, 1 core tool, 1 rubber, 1 notched blade, 17 scrapers, 11 notched flakes, 8 blades, 1 complete bulb, 1 knife, 2 mesolithic picks, 1 knife, 1 axe, 3 microliths.
